Maiden Voyage of a new Lufthansa

So I wake up most mornings and check Flight Radar, but sometimes it's more about what time something is happening rather than the 'what' is happening. So I biked up for the 12pm flight not really knowing what I was catching, and was surprised to see this beautiful, shiny, new Lufthansa.

It's only going from FXH to HAM, so not a very long flight but long enough to check the system and landing gear. the moment it leaves the tarmac is considered its 'birthday' so it will be in the aeroplane log that it's very first flight was today (30.06.2026).

How can you tell it's a Maiden Voyage?

There's a few ways but from what I can tell these are the main points:

1. It has an 'A' at the end of the call sign. This stands for the first test flight, 'B' for the second test flight and so on.
2. It has a temporary registration, in this case D-AVYR.
3. It's a routine of Airbus to fly the first test flight from FXH to HAM as it's a perfect loop test for landing gear and flight systems.
4. For this plane, it was spotted back in April 2026 undergoing pre-delivery tasks in full Lufthansa livery.

Quite honestly, biking around catching planes makes me feel like I'm in an 80's movie chasing aliens. And it's very interesting doing detective work on the various planes you see, is it a test flight? Is it a standard delvívery flight? Is it a special livery? etc.
